Italy’s New Cooking King is Greek

Bringing together two great Mediterranean culinary traditions, 37-year-old Spyros Theodoridis won the Italian edition of Master Chef TV contest. The Athenian-born chef works in a restaurant in Modena, Italy, and was a professional actor before he discovered his talent in the kitchen.

During the season Theodoridis became hugely popular with the Italian public, who named him "timidone" (shy) and followed him on Twitter.

His victory brought him a €100,000 cash prize, and the opportunity to write his own recipe book. His plans include opening his own restaurant on the island of Hydra.
