1. Mam: Why are people lined up to buy Mam’s pitas (Greek savory and sweet pies)? Because they are some of the best cheese, spinach and meat pies in Athens. No frills, no place to sit, no fuss no muss. Just grad a pie and eat it while it’s hot.

Tip:Look for the pies that have just come out of the oven
Take your pie and go sit down the street at Kotzia Square which has some of the most beautiful Neoclassical buildings in Athens.

3. Ariston Bakery:One of the oldest bakeries in Athens. Every kind of sweet and savory Greek pita (pie) you could possibly imagine. Some favorites to try: Prasopita (wild greens pita), Tiropita (cheese pita), Kotopita (chicken pie). No place to sit so just grab it and go and take on seat on the back steps of the old Parliament Building at the end of the street.

Zagori: Villages hidden behind mountains

Zagori is an area of great natural beauty and unique architecture in the Pindus Mountains in Epirus in Northwestern Greece. The area is of about 1.000 square kilometers and contains 46 villages. Zagoria villages is called by Greeks “Zagorochoria” meaning the villages behind the mountain.
