40th Book Festival

The 40th Book Festival was inaugurated on September 4 by Hellenic Republic President Karolos Papoulias, at the Zappeion Gardens in downtown Athens. More than 50,000 titles by 150 publishers are presented at the festival which this year is dedicated to the 2011 European Year of Volunteering.

The festival also features a pavilion dedicated to books and magazines that were censored or prohibited during the 7-year dictatorship in Greece and a pavilion set up by the National Transplants Organisation with informational material on organ donation. The Festival runs through September 18.
