The 46th Dimitria Festival Is Now On

The 46th Dimitria Festival – Thessaloniki’s most important cultural event - is already underway, running until October 25.

Its programme includes a wide variety of events: concerts, musical and theatrical performances, a series of events featuring performers and artists from the Middle East – a part of the programme which is included in the Thessaloniki – Cultural Crossroads initiative. One of the highlights of this year’s Festival is the Vegetable Orchestra, from Austria, for two concerts on September 26-27.

This unique ensemble, which was founded in 1998, is a mix of people with different artistic backgrounds - musicians, visual artists, architects, designers, media artists, writers and sound poets – who play music, using fresh vegetables as musical instruments, created ad hoc for every concert. As an encore at the end of the concert and the video performance, the audience is offered fresh vegetable soup.

Another highlight is the performances, on September 24-25, of the legendary Swiss Pantomime Theatre Mummerschanz. The performance 40 years Mummenschanz - The Best of…, includes selections from their best moments of the theatre’s 40-year history.
