Goya and Beethoven @ Teloglion Foundation
Two artistic giants of the late 18th and early 19th centuries - both afflicted by the plight of deafness- are at the heart of a joint exhibition at Thessaloniki’s Teloglion Foundation of Art launched in late October running until January 2012.
A total of 211 etchings from Goya’s four most expressive series - Los Caprichos, Los Desastres Della Guerra, Los Proverbios and Tauromaquia depict the absurdity of war and inner existential angst.
These etchings, which belong to the Athens National Gallery Collections – are accompanied by a display of six oil paintings on loan from the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum, including The Bust of a Woman.
The "Beethovian" contribution includes manuscripts, pictures, musical instruments and mementos coming from the Beethoven-Haus collection in Bonn. The exhibition is divided in three parts which reveal the musician’s intricate attention to detail and the way his symphonies were closely linked to the political reverberations of his time.
