A tiny island of immense natural beauty, Koufonisi, is the ultimate summer destination for those who seek quiet days and nights. An exotic paradise, surrounded by turquoise crystal-clear waters and soft sandy beaches, this island enthralls all nature-lovers who flock there every summer. Leave your car and fancy clothes at home and take out your smallest suitcase; a swimming suit and a snorkel is all you’re ever going to need, so why bother?
One of the best things about this island is that there are not that many things to do. Here, you have the right to be lazy, take your time and leave all worries behind. Hard choices are about which beach to go to, how to get there (walk, sail, or ride a bicycle) and what to have for dinner. Life is simplified to the maximum, as everything revolves around the beach, the beach and… the beach!

With a size of 3.4 km², Koufonisi is a miniature island, which can be easily explored on foot.  Cars seem to be ostracized, so make sure you are prepared to use alternative means of transportation, mainly your feet. However, this is rather pleasant, since the island can be walked across within 30 minutes. The coastal routes are a bit longer but will pay off for the extra effort, as they unravel the island’s amazing coastline. Beautiful pristine beaches lie the one after the other, only to be interrupted by imaginative rock formations.  Caves, natural pools private-mini beaches and beautiful views, are there at each and every step of the way.

Fanos, Italida and Pori are some of the bigger and most preferred beaches on Koufonisi. As the island is quite small, things can get pretty packed during high season. But the island is so easy-going, so laid-back and relaxing, that miraculously nothing seems to be annoying. Swimming, walking, snorkeling, sunbathing and cycling is all the island has to offer. But who needs anything else? Pure bliss comes from Koufonisi’s extremely slow pace. Everything is within reach, there is no need to rush, no need to make plans, because Koufonisi is the plan! I f you get to feel a bit adventurous, hop on the next boat to Kato Koufonisi and explore the beaches and the scene of Koufonisi’s twin brother. The emerald transparent waters, the wild scenery and the happy campers make up Kato Koufonisi’s lost world. A world within a world, within a world! The incredible meal at the local taverna will make your taste buds go ballistic; home-made cooking, local produce, friendly atmosphere…

The horn blows and the boat is about to leave. The waves and the wind carry you across the sea to Koufonisi. The port has turned beautifully purple as the sun is about to set. Its image is reflected on the still water and the day triumphantly makes its way out. The night is right at the corner, ready to fill the sky with countless bright stars. As a star shoots over my head, I make my wish: to come back to Koufonisi the following summer!
