The peripheral unit of Kastoria is part of the periphery of Western Macedonia. Gifted with one of the most charming lakeside towns in Europe, picturesque villages surrounded by the splendor of the Pindus mountain range and rare historical monuments, the region of Kastoria is a well-established all-year-round destination.

The versatile land of Kastoria is characterized by forested mountains and plateaus of the Pindus range that are dotted with tranquil villages. To the south and southwest of the capital visit the villages of Eptachori, with its 12th century monastery of Agios Georgios as well as the village of Chryssi, which lay next to the majestic forest of Arrenes. At the village of Nestorio you will be overwhelmed by the beauty of the riverside forests of River Aliakmonas (Greece’s longest river).

For winter sports enthusiasts and just a few kilometers north of the city of Kastoria, there is always the Vernon (or Vitsi) skiing resort. Up on the slopes of Mount Vitsi, it features three ski slopes and three ski lifts as well as adequate dining and relaxation.
