Meteora – A global climbing phenomenon

Meteora is composed of a huge cluster of dark rocks rising out of Kalambaka, near the first heights of Pindus and Chasia mountains. It is a popular destination both for its endless climbing capabilities and excellent organizational infrastructure. Thousands of climbers from all over the world arrive here to admire the “rocky forest” and enjoy a unique climbing activity. Meteora is a rocky valley of wild beauty that becomes both a source of inspiration and reflection for the lovers of climbing.

The first climbers of these rocks used to be isolated by the conventional world in an attempt to the “absolute joy” between heaven and earth. Nowadays, various modern rock climbing "practitioners" continue to extrapolate the limits of human capacity in order to reach the top of the mountain. Staring at the sky through their own fingertips, they show resistance to the conventional world. If you still look for a reason for visiting this natural treasure, we inform you that we still try to explain how the place’s monasteries were built on the rocks. Meteora monastic complex, remains the second most important monastic complex in Greece, after the Holy Mountain. A climbing experience here lasts for almost 3 hours while the cost depends on the route and the difficulty level.
