Steam train of Pelion for an ideal romance

“Mountzouris” is the legendary train of Pelion that will allow you to rediscover various lovely mountains and villages between Volos – Pelion route. The construction of Pelion railway began in 1882 and completed in 1903. Evaristo De Chirico, the Italian engineer, was the main designer and supervisor of the railway project who cooperated with various Italian workers and Pelion builders for the completion of the task.

Nowadays, the result is highly admired not only for its perfect construction but also for its absolute harmony to the natural beauties that place it between the most popular touristic railway routes around the world. “Mountzouris” steam train completed its first voyage between Volos to Ano Lechonia (13 km) on October 12, 1895 while eight years later the line was extended to Ano Lechonia – Milies (15,2 km). If you still look for a reason to try it, we inform you that the route’s lush vegetation, Pagassitikos view, archers bridges, tunnels and “Belegrino” small iron bridge are some of the key ingredients for one of the most beautiful trips around Europe.
