Discover the autumn mushrooms in Pelion

Pelion welcomes autumn visitors to experience the region’s thematic mushroom tasting weekends. The travelers will have the chance not only to be initiated to the secrets of the mountain mushrooms but also enjoy relaxing moments close to the nature’s purity. There are several hostels in Tsagarada village that organize the tasting weekends during the first autumn rains. When the forest soil is soaked, humidity creates young, fresh mushrooms that can be discovered under the fallen leaves. Locals’ favorite moment arrives when visitors come here ready to explore the mountains and gather fresh mushrooms as well as wild fruits and nuts.

The “Mushroom-Hunt” could be regarded as a game where the guests collect the mushrooms and then organize a gathering to taste them and share their experiences. During the thematic mushroom tasting weekends, you will have the chance to learn about various mushroom varieties including kalogerakia, vasiles, gourgoulianes, neratzakia and zourlomanitatara. Get ready for a fantastic experience under the trees and bushes in order to find, identify and photograph as many species of mushrooms as possible. Fill your baskets to discover their taste and sit next to the fireplace with local wine or raki.
