Aegean Airlines S.A.


 Aegean Airlines is a Greek airline headquartered in Athens. Its main base is Athens International Airport with secondary hubs at Thessaloniki International Airport and Heraklion International Airport. It operates scheduled and charter services from Athens and Thessaloniki to other major Greek destinations as well as to a number of European destinations. Aegean Airlines was founded as Aegean Aviation in 1987 but was originally a VIP business specializing in executive and air ambulance services. In 1994After it was bought by Vasilakis Group, Aegean Aviation commenced VIP flights from Athens all over the world with wholly owned Learjet aircraft. 
It was not until 1999 that the “Aegean Airlines” name was adopted with the start of scheduled passenger services.

Aegean's first commercial flights were from Athens to Heraklion, Crete and Thessaloniki, Macedonia, with 2 new wholly owned BAE 146/RJ100. In 1999 Aegean bought “Air Greece” a Greek airliner based in Heraclion and two years later merged with Cronus Airlines. As of April 28, 2009, Aegean Airlines operated 47 domestic and international routes with approximately 200 daily flights. On 26 May 2009, Aegean Airlines' membership application was approved by the Chief Executive Board of Star Alliance. Aegean officially joined the alliance on 30 June 2010.
