Harmonia in Greek mythology is the goddess of harmony and unity, the exact opposite of Eris. She is the patron goddess of the love that unites all people, the embodiment of order and civic unity. Harmonia is the daughter of Ares and Aphrodite and wife of Cadmus. With Cadmus, she had six children, Ino, Polydorus, Autonoë, Agave, Semele, and Illyrius.According to the myth when Cadmus went on voyage to Samothrace to retrieve his sister Europe, he was escorted by Harmonia, and carried. He fall in love with her and took her away with the assistance of Athena. When Cadmus was obliged to give up Thebes, Harmonia accompanied him and later became his wife. Harmonia is distinguished in ancient mythology mainly on the account of the necklace she received on her wedding day. Cadmus offered Harmonia the with a robe gift of Athena and necklace made from Hephaestus. Hephaestus unable to tolerate any illegitimate child of Aphrodite put all his rage in his creation making sure it looked exquisite. This necklace, famously referred to as the Necklace of Harmonia, brought hardship to all who possessed it.
