A recently released book titled The Greeks of Danforth, the Greek Town written by author Xeni Muhimoglou takes us on a journey into the heart of Hellenism in Canada.
Τhe book reveals the Hellenic spirit of The Great White North and especially Toronto by presenting Greek migrants living in the city and mostly those living on Danforth Avenue, which is otherwise known as "Greek Town." While walking along Danforth Avenue, one can hear Greek being spoken and come across stores, restaurants and coffee shops all bearing Greek names, such as "Acropolis," "Alexandros" and "Parthenon."
The author aims at presenting the Greek spirit and atmosphere blooming in snow-white Canada through the narratives and adventures of the Greek people who left their home country and have lived there for many years.
Meanwhile, inspired by the book, director Vangelis Rigas visited the Greek Town and shot a short documentary film about the Danforth Avenue and the widely known Taste of the Danforth -Toronto's Greek Food and Cultural Festival. The documentary is expected to be screened at the 14th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival to be held from March 9 to 18, 2012.
