The new government under Lucas Papademos secured an overwhelming majority in Parliament, winning a vote of confidence, following a three-day debate. Two hundred and fifty-five MPs from three parties -PASOK, New Democracy (ND) and Popular Orthodox Rally (LAOS) voted in favour of the new government which was formed last week, while 38 MPs- from the Communist (KKE) and SYRIZA parties as well as independent ones voted against.
Prime Minister Lucas Papademos met yesterday evening with the Institute for International Finance (IIF) managing director Charles Dallara, at the Maximos Mansion. The meeting focused on the restructuring of the Greek debt and the private sector's participation.
Earlier, the IIF chief had held talks with Government Vice President and Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos on the implementation of the October 26-27 Eurozone Summit decision and in particular the issue of the private sector's participation in the Greek economy's support package.
