Eurogroup President Jean-Claude Juncker expressed optimism over the pending approval of the sixth tranche of an EC-ECB-IMF bailout package, speaking after a meeting with Greek Prime Minister Lucas Papademos, in Luxemburg yesterday.
Juncker said that the issue of signatures guaranteeing adherence to the October 26 EU summit decisions - on the part of Greek political leaders backing the current transitional government - must also be resolved by November 29, when the Eurogroup meets. On his part, Papademos said the three political parties backing his government must sign a written guarantee with Greece's international creditors saying they will support austerity measures.
As he said, such a guarantee is necessary in order to disburse the € 8 billion 6th tranche adding that he expects the heads of the three parties to meet this condition so that the issue will be resolved by the end of the month.
