Oil for Oil, Tank for Pan
The schools of Thessaloniki’s Old Town municipalities have been saving their cooking oil for some time now, and are now ready for depositing. On December 16, the 1st Agios Pavlos elementary school was the first to give in a total volume of 750 litres of frying oil to their project partner, the Technical University of Western Macedonia.
The Dynamics Laboratory of the University will recycle the cooking oil and provide the pupils with an equal amount of biodiesel, which will be used to heat their school. This is only the first school to submit the collected oil, as all schools of the Municipality of Neapolis and Sykies participate in the project and aspire to achieve "zero-cost, zero-oil heating." The Municipality is an active member of the Covenant of Mayors movement for increasing energy efficiency and the use of RES.
