Aristotelis Onasis was the definition of a tycoon. He managed to become one of the wealthiest people in the world, starting from almost nothing but his ingenuity and determination. He was born in Smirni and in 1922 he moved to Greece as a refugee. A year later he emigrated to Argentina, seeking the life he wanted. There he became a tobacco importer. During the period of 1923-1932, he served as a consul of Greece in Buenos Aires. By 1932 he had become a world-class businessman, owning commercial ships, tankers, and whalers. By 1953 he had already acquired control of the Monte Carlo Company. Onasis founded Olympic Airways in 1957. His affairs with Maria Callas and Jackie Kennedy became a legend and his friendship and association with the political and financial elite of the world reinforced his cosmopolitan image. His unique personality combined elements of Greek "andria", courage and determination. His son's accidental death affected his health and a few years later he died in Paris, leaving behind a mythical heritage to his daughter Christina.
