History |
| Athens is the city of the Goddess Athena, the Goddess of wisdom and indeed of impregnability (a symbol for the invincibility of the city), who bestowed an olive tree, symbol of peace and prosperity, as her gift. |

The Acropolis |
| For many people, Athens is identified with the Acropolis. Designed by the architect Iktinos and erected during the Golden Age, its buildings remain a magnificent monument. |

Architecture |
| The center of Athens is not such a large area and it is well worth taking several walks to really savor its charms. In the middle of Panepistimiou Street, which connects Syntagma and Omonia Squares, considered the heart of the city, are three splendid neoclassical buildings, the Academy, the University and the Library built between 1859 - 1887 by the Danish architect Theophilus Hansen. |

| Once in Athens, one must take the time to visit the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion. The coastal area one has to drive through to get there provides many restaurants and beaches, so a day trip is advisable. |
