History |
| The island has been inhabited ever since prehistoric times and owing to its geographical position it developed into the major trading center of the Mediterranean. |

Mythology |
| Way back, this island was known by several names such as Ofiousa, Asteria and Kolibia among others. Given the climate, the island was dedicated to the worship of the Sun God Apollo, however, the name Rhodos was given to the island in honor of a nymph, daughter of Poseidon, God of the Sea. |

The Colossus |
| The Colossus was not a myth, but a real bronze statue purportedly over 31 meters (approximately 100 feet) in height striding across the harbor that is now known as Mandraki and has become a haven for yachts. |

Architecture |
| The heavy set frankish medieval fortresses and buildings of the old city of Rhodes are perhaps the most impressive landmark of the island. Well preserved, almost intact the building of the Knight’s Hospital now houses the Archaeological Museum. |

Ancient Greek Sites |
| Of all the ancient sites, Ialisos is the most ancient. Originally founded by the Phoenicians, it was already known as "Ancient" in ancient times. |

Beaches - Other Places of Interest |
| The best of the island’s many beautiful beaches can be found on the north eastern coast just south of the old city of Rhodes, these are, to name a few, Faliraki, Afantou, Tsambika and of course Kalithea (which means beautiful view). |

| Rhodes is endowed with a plentiful selection of excellent high quality restaurants where one can savor traditional dishes such as the Tourtes Rhoditikes. |
