Mythology - History |
| Both Homer and Hesiod mention the Pilion peninsula as being a richly forested and fertile area. Jason built the sturdy ship "Argo" with timber from this area to pursue his quest of the Golden Fleece. |

| |
Meteora |
| In the centre of Greece, where the Pinios River emerges from the Pindos mountain range, we encounter an extraordinary geological phenomenon, the gigantic rocks of the Meteora, something like huge stalagmites shooting up out of the ground. |

Architecture |
| The architecture of the Pilion houses is very characteristic with the use of slate roofs and obvious influences from Ipiros. The villages started to sprout up round the monasteries for protection in 1423. |

Activities - Places of Interest |
| Mount Pilion is a beautiful place to visit all year round. The villages of Portaria, Tsagarada, Makrinitsa are a delight for one to walk about and enjoy the scenery. |

Cuisine - Wines |
| Fertile areas, such as the Pilion (famous for its apple orchards), usually have an interesting cuisine. Furthermore, a mountain area which becomes snowed up needs food and wine, which will not only nourish but also warm the body and soul. |
|

How to Get There |
| There are KTEL (Intercity bus Company) bus services to Volos from Athens, Thessaloniki, and Patra as well. There is also a train service via Larisa, again from both Athens and Thessaloniki. |
