He first published his poetry in 1935 in "Nea Grammata", a literary magazine, which brought to Greece works from the European contemporary literary scene and became the intellectual medium of the 30's generation...

•  Georgios Seferis (1900-1971)
The Nobelist poet was born in Smirni. His father, a University professor, is considered the best translator of Lord Byron’s poetry. He finished high school in Athens and then continued his studies in law and literature in Paris.

One of the greatest writers of the modern era, he appeared in the literary scene in the beginning of the 20th century. His work is varied: novels, poetry, drama, tragedies, philosophical essays, travel impressions, translations of Homer, Dante and Goethe.
•  Konstantinos Kavafis (1862-1933)
One of the best poets, the son of a wealthy businessman, he was born in Alexandria where he lived most of his life. He created a different kind of poetry by breaking away from all language, subject and verse conventionalisms and by introducing a new kind of brevity in expression.
•  Vasilis Vasilikos (1934)
The novelist Vasilikos gained international fame when his novel "Z" became a successful film, directed by Costas Gavras. Born in Kavala, the son of a member of the Greek parliament, he studied law at the University of Thessaloniki. During the years of dictatorship in Greece, he lived in Europe as a political refugee.
