•  Costas Gavras (1932)
The first Greek director, who spoke openly for what Greece is all about, is Costas Gavras. Deeply political, Gavras studied in France from where his career was launched.
•  Theodoros Angelopoulos (1936)
Theodoros Angelopoulos is one of Greece’s most important contemporary directors. He received a French education in IDHEC and began his career as a film critic rather than a director. However, his great love for making movies urged him to direct.
•  Michael Cacoyiannis (1922)
Michael Cacoyiannis, born in Limassol, is closely related to Greece and its contemporary history. He studied law and dramatic art in London. After working as an actor and director for the English stage, he arrived in Athens in 1953 and devoted himself to cinema.
•  Irene Papas (1926)
Beautiful deep voice, black hair and a posture that imposes itself on whoever lays eyes on the Greek figure of world-wide known Irene Papas, are only some of her characteristics. Born in Chiliomodi, Greece, Papas wanted to just make it and she did.
•  Melina Merkouri (1915-1994)
It was during the troubled times of the Greek Junta in 1967 that Melina Merkouri fought for the liberation of Greece, singing in the tunes of Mikis Theodorakis. Melina was Greece’s most vocal advocate, within the borders of Greece and outside them, her political activism was even stronger.
•  Basil Poledouris (1945)
One of the Greeks, who became successful in Hollywood, is the composer Basil Poledouris. Son of Greek immigrants, Poledouris was born in Kansas City, Missouri.
•  Olympia Dukakis
During a career that spans over 35 years, Olympia Dukakis has assumed many roles, as actress, director, producer, teacher and an activist. She has been a major Hollywood star.
•  Spyros P. Skouras (1893-1971)
Born in Skourohori, Greece, he became a legend in the film industry as the President of the Twentieth-Century Fox from 1943 to 1962, when he resigned under the financial pressure, resulting from the making of the movie "Cleopatra".
•  Vassilis Fotopoulos (1934)
The Art Director was born in Kalamata where -at a very young age- he took his first classes in painting. In 1958, he was hired as a stage designer for the Athens Opera House. His interest in making an international career guided him to Europe and the United States.
